About
My name is Bengt Elmén, and I was born with cerebral palsy. Once upon a time, I earned a bachelor's degree in public law, but that was a very long time ago. Fortunately, I didn't stay in that field. Throughout my life, I've had the privilege of pursuing many different careers. I worked as an activist, author, lecturer, mentor, filmmaker, and YouTuber. Much of my life has been about encouraging people to see the world— and themselves—from new perspectives.
Today, I work as a satirical cartoon artist. I create my drawings by collaborating with personal assistants who, among other talents, are skilled illustrators. My cartoons have been published in Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, and Galago, and this is my fifth solo exhibition.
Sex and dance are two of the greatest joys in life. Both have been the subject of my previous exhibitions, but this time I wanted to bring them together—to let them meet, and perhaps even mate. Through a combination of images and text, this exhibition explores the surprising similarities between them.
