Mayhem Lab 1 | Transformational Dance Workshop with Backpack Jesus

The goal: Learn to use the dance floor as a communal cosmic transformation machine.
What we do: Deep dive into transformational practices you can carry onto any dance floor anywhere. Then we dance to play with it. Then the next day (or later that week), we gather at another dance (Plein Soleil, Ecstatic Mayhem, etc) to integrate the practices as a group in the “real world”

The after: The next day, July 22nd, we'll go to Plein Soleil together to dance and integrate what we play with in the workshop in the “real world”. When you buy a ticket for Mayhem Lab, you'll receive a discount code for Plein Soleil's July 22nd dance ($22 rather than $33). This is optional.

Topic of Mayhem Lab 1: Moving from unique intelligence of your body parts. How does deep attunement to your pelvis impact the rest of your body? Your heart? Your core? Your spine? Deep attunement to your body in movement can unlock deep qualities of power, love, eros, creativity, and more.

But don't stop there! What is it like to embody your dance partner's body? What's it like to embody all of the dancers in the room? The mystery unfolds…

After buying your ticket, you'll get access to a somatic embodiment meditation recording to practice on your own at home ahead of the workshop (and after).

The longer answer
The dance floor reveals everything. Patterns, protections, strengths, and stories. When I go to an Ecstatic Dance, I don't just dance. I discover, celebrate and dance with my infinite bullshit until my most powerful, loving, animal emerges from the shadows.

I feel needy. I want everyone to like me. And I dance through that illusion until I remember my innate and permanent "good enough-ness"

Or I tell myself the story that "All these people are too shy, performative, they don't get it." I welcome and dance with the part of me that believes those stories until I remember that I love every one of these messy, imperfect beings.

I dance with the parts of me that believe I’m too much or not enough until the illusion of those stories becomes beautiful and absurd, and I laugh myself to tears.

Ecstatic Dance has been a chaotic universe of play and transformation for me over the last 10 years. Mayhem Lab is an experimental container where I will attempt to pass on what I’ve learned after hundreds and hundreds of hours on the dance floor.

I’ll also bring in my training and hundreds of hours of experience guiding clients one on one in somatic transformation, parts work, reparenting, attachment repair, hypnotic healing, trance work, shadow work and non-dual meditation to give you tangible practices you can carry with you onto any dance floor anywhere. Whether that’s an Ecstatic Dance, a contact improv workshop, a Salsa party, or an underground Berlin techno rave.

I touch on some of these tools in the warmups to Ecstatic Mayhem. But the container is too big to be able to deep dive on these tools.

Mayhem Lab will give us a chance to go much deeper into specific tools and ways of being on the dance floor that create the possibility of radical evolution. Both individually and as a community.

The goal here is to seed the dance culture of Montreal, both at Mayhem dances and everywhere else, with a transformational depth of experience.

The vision is that a core group of us will play with these tools together, learn the language, and then be able to play in that common language when we run into each other at dances "in the wild"

We'll do a warmup diving into a certain tool, perspective, or way of being on the dance floor, then flow into an ecstatic dance where we get to play with it.

Then we’ll gather at another dance (Mayhem, Plein Soleil, or other) the same week to bring the magic into the world.
