About
Your creativity is just like the muscles in your body; you need to exercise it regularly to keep it strong and healthy. If you’re going to be a songwriter, you need to write songs. Lots of them. Some of them will stink, and that’s OK. The good news is, you don’t have to do it alone.
Each month, we’ll take a famous piece of music, figure out the elements that make it special and then use those ideas to write our own songs.
You don’t need to play a musical instrument to participate but feel free to bring one if you like. If you have questions, please contact Ava at
Ava has twenty years of experience facilitating playful and inclusive creative spaces. So, whether you’re excited about writing your first song or looking for new ideas for your 100th song, please join us. Together, we’ll make something special.
Ava Burns is a restless, observant and playfully subversive musician. She has written and recorded ten albums of original music as a solo artist and with various ensembles including indie-rock band Bootstrap Circus and synth-pop duo Little Tiger. Ava’s emotionally astute lyrics celebrate the divergent and nonconforming, blending empathy, defiance, and unadulterated joy.
As an educator, Ava creates an inspiring and safe environment where students can immerse themselves in a creative process of exposure, experimentation, development, evaluation and sharing. Her goal is to teach people how to use music to express themselves and build community.
