About
Come spend a day with your hands in the soil and your mind in the science with Michael Kennard. Nestled in East Sussex at the emerging regenerative farm Furnace Brook, this is a rare chance to walk the land, understand the living world beneath your feet, and discover how **compost sits at the heart of ecological renewal, ** and how you can apply these ideas wherever you are.
🔬 Soil Science & Composting Talk & Practical: A deep dive into the microbial world, fungal networks, and the biology-led methods that power effective composting and nutrient-dense food production. Engage in a practical hands-on compost bay building and filing together.
🚶Rewilding & Regenerative Farm Presentation: An opening talk on the farm's vision: mob-grazing goats, pasture-raised chickens in their field tractor, and a landscape being rewilded from the ground up.
🔬Farm Tour: Walk the lake, fields, and pastures, seeing the regenerative systems in action before making your way to the hilltop where Compost Club is set up.
♻️ Circular Economy in Practice: Explore the on-site composting infrastructure up close and join an open Q&A on closed-loop nutrient cycles and how to apply these approaches at home or on your land.
OPTIONAL : To spend the night camping, singing, and nestling by the fire
Testimonials :
_“🌿 Yesterday was nothing short of magical! 🌿 I spent the day diving into the fascinating world of medicinal mushrooms with the amazing @thefemaleforager. 🍄✨ One of the most exciting moments? Encountering turkey tail for the first time—a powerful medicinal mushroom known for its antioxidant properties, immune-modulating benefits, and even its use in cancer treatments. 💪🍄 The evening was capped off with a feast of incredible dishes crafted by the culinary genius @trewitts. 🥘💫 The highlight? Connecting with such lovely, like-minded people who share the same passion for nature and good food. 🫶 A huge thank you to @primalgathering for organising such an incredible experience. 🙏 Definitely a day to remember!” - Naomi Doyle _
A journey of discovery of the land, mind and senses with a group of people that shared the experience how they wanted to. Thank you for opening up the energies of the earth, sky and landscape. It was heart warming to see a group not tied to technology, that were prepared to be open to what might happen and not be worried about perhaps getting it wrong. - **Andrew Throssell** ** **
_Very inspiring event, great very special unique project to support. What an exceptional day this was; a very special day of learning and insight with truly beautiful people…✨🙏✨ Annie Harris _
**About Michael Kennerd: **

Michael is a regenerative farmer and educator whose work sits at the meeting point of soil biology, composting, permaculture, and food systems. Based at Meliora Farm. Furnace Brook, he is actively developing and trialling practices that place living soils, biodiversity, and closed-loop nutrient cycles at the centre. Through Compost Club, he demystifies the often unseen world of microbes, fungi, and organic matter, revealing how these hidden relationships underpin both resilient landscapes and nutrient-dense food.
At the heart of his work is a simple belief: regenerative farming is as much about people and culture as it is about land. Soil First Farming.
