About
A weekend immersion in Argentine tango with a small group of dancers ( 10–20 maximum ) wanting to engage in a rich experience of shared inquiry, guided by experienced dancers and group facilitators.
Teachers: Alberto Ortiz • Biljana Lipic • Embodied Symposium facilitated by Dr Becalelis Brodskis. see below for teacher info;
“Why walk when you can dance?”
This question is not posed as a fixed point of view, but as a starting point for an embodied enquiry.
This immersion is not about learning steps.
It is a space to learn and to share through an embodied dialogue — engaging with questions that arise in relation to the walking embrace and the forms tango takes as it moves through our lives.
Rather than accumulating material, the focus is on refining attention: to the music, to your partner, and to your own physical and emotional responses within the dance.
Through shared practice, discussion and reflection, the weekend creates space to question habits, assumptions and preconceptions, and to develop — through shared experience — what it means to be in connection: with the music, within the dance, and beyond it.
The work approaches tango through walking, listening and connection — rather than performance or complexity.
An Innermost milonga will take place in Falmouth on Saturday evening (19:30–00:00).
Alberto Ortiz will be DJing , and participants are encouraged to attend.
Reflections on the evening will feed into the following day’s symposium.
Penryn & Falmouth, Cornwall
(The majority of the weekend will take place in Penryn. Additional private classes may take place separately.)
This weekend is limited to 10–20 participants to support a shared, focused and gentle learning environment.
The price has been set to balance small group working with accessibility. We anticipate covering basic costs only, and encourage those on higher incomes to choose the supporter rate.
In the unlikely event of a surplus, this will be used to subsidise concession places at future events.
Two concession places are available.
If you are committed to the work and unable to afford the concession rate, please direct message to discuss further options.
Alberto Ortiz
Alberto began his career in Buenos Aires, studying tango salón with leading maestros including Jorge Dispari — a key figure and guardian of the Villa Urquiza style of tango. While his dance has adapted to contemporary milongas, it retains a strong focus on elegance, musicality, and the fundamental importance of walking over complex figures.
Biljana Lipic
Biljana Lipcic is an internationally recognised tango dancer and teacher. She is the founder of Zero Hour, one of London’s most popular tango clubs, and plays a key role in supporting the growth of tango in Cornwall. Her work as an embodiment facilitator supports dancers and related arts projects across Europe in engaging more deeply with their own bodies and movement, bridging traditional and contemporary approaches to tango. She is also an artist and writer/director.
Dr Becalelis Brodskis
Dr Becalelis Brodskis is an award-winning filmmaker with a long-standing engagement with tango beyond dancing. His experience includes managing tango dancers and producing a feature documentary with leading dancers of that time. He is a co-founder of Barefoot Tango Practica and initiated Barefoot Forró in Cornwall with Felipe Abreu. He is an experienced facilitator, teaching in postgraduate higher education and community settings, with a focus on interdisciplinary art in social contexts.
