About

Please join us for a day of communal practice that is rarely given its full due: the invitation to turn toward death — in a way that bring a fuller appreciation of our remaining days.

Maranasati — mindfulness of death — is a protective meditation found across the Pāli suttas, and encompasses numerous practices that each fit within the framework of the Four Noble Truths, transcending suffering, the cause of suffering and the path leading to the end of suffering. Together, these practices dissolve the intoxicating trance of permanence and separation that underlies so much of our suffering. It’s not uncommon that practitioners discover a paradox: disenchantment with the vanishing world and a refreshing appreciation of a deeper reality.

This daylong is an invitation to practice in the company of friends — and in doing so, to begin changing our culture surrounding death.

We will move through an integrated sequence of formal practice periods, dharma teaching, and relational inquiry. The day is designed to move from the head into the heart and body — grounding our wisdom in the body, where the truth of impermanence is revealed.

What to bring: Comfortable clothing, water bottle, vegetarian lunch offering.
