WALK-IN'S WELCOME - CASH ONLY!

Moving in response to poetry, live music, and silence, we cultivate an intimate connection with the moment through embodiment of nature, deep presence states and imagination.

A series of three Saturday afternoon immersive themed movement journeys exploring butoh-based improvisational dance facilitated by Kait Dron.

In these workshops, we will be approaching - and approached by – nature as a community of speaking worlds, in constant dialogue through imagination. As a community of speaking bodies, the visualised landscape is experienced as poetic; obscure; surprising; clarifying; confronting; affirming. We process and reflect on our movement through writing, mark making and sharing. Like a plant, the imagination grows. Drawn from Butoh founder Kazuo Ohno’s practice of emergent forms we will play with memory, time and image to be formed, like clay, from them; being and becoming simultaneously. Through movement we enter into the mystery of the body that reveals and provokes, smooths and breaks through our being, making us new, drawing us closer to reality. Yet the closer we get, the less definable reality becomes. In riddling through the inexpressible, we find we are participating, responding and contributing. We will imagine what it is to be inhabited by the non-human, perhaps we will know rocks in our joints, sand pouring as our weight, fire flaming from our fingers.

We will be joined by a crew of musicians who will be creating live soundscapes for us to move to.

Each workshop revolves around a different theme, moving from our first session ‘Sea’ on 7th March, to ‘Mountain’ on 4th April and ‘Star’ on 16th May.

We are an open group, so you are welcome to join for one, or all of the journeys, as you wish.

They are offered on a sliding scale basis, with limited concession tickets £15 available for unemployed in receipt of benefits.
This is offered on a trust basis - so please keep others in mind when booking. If you'd like to come and cost is a genuine barrier, if concession tickets have sold out please email kait@being.land 🙂

Kait is a dance artist trained in butoh primarily under the lineage of Kazuo Ohno. She has studied with influential teachers including Seiji Tanaka, Atsushi Takenouchi, Yumiko Yoshioka, and Imre Thormann. Her practice is deeply informed by land-based movement, textual arts, and mythic narratives, exploring the intersection of body, imagination, spirit and landscape. Kait looks at how aesthetic, performance and poetic practices can generate knowledge and ignite discussion, enabling embodied, emergent and participatory forms of insight.
