the atmosphere sessions: track 5 w/ Chris Shank & Tyler Lawson of ATProto Los Angeles

Welcome to The Atmosphere Sessions, where I, your host (that’s me, Bryan Guffey aka @chaosgreml.in), sit down with the people who make the Atmosphere resonate, and get them to talk about things you didn’t know you needed to know, making us all feel a little more, well, connected.

Our fifth episode features our first duo! Chris Shank (@chrisshank.com) of @libcomp.org and @folkjs.org, as well as Tyler Lawson (@tyler.fun), who mysteriously only calls himself “a web dev in la” 🧐

Of course, I know Chris and Tyler best as the better 2/3 of the three-headed hydra that is the leadership of ATProto Los Angeles, aka @atproto.la, one of over twenty local ATProto user groups that have popped up all over the world, accelerating especially after AtmosphereConf 2026 in Vancouver, BC.

This will be a fun one, because I could talk to these two for hours about almost anything. What will we end up talking about? Probably some of the following:

• ATproto as a “post-app” protocol
• what “ownership” means when it comes to social data
• how to get comedians on atproto
• which atproto luminary Chris lives by
