About

This year we will be cycling through the wheel of the year very intentionally. Not only will we be diving into the teachings of each turning and the accompanying deities that we can draw on for deeper understanding of the Sabbat, but we will also embark upon an elemental initiation as we pass through air, fire, water earth & spirit.

The initiation into the elements will consist of a series of guided journeys to meet the elemental spirits guiding us through this incarnation whilst celebrating and observing the Wheel of the Year and traditional Sabbats in our circle.

We will experience a personal spiritual connection to the fundamental forces of creation and as we focus in turn on each element, exploring individual pathways whilst being supported by the group.

New and/or existing practices will reveal themselves and help us transform into fully developed beings grounded in Earth, passionate as Fire, light as Air and free flowing as Water, in harmony with the Spirit of all.

In the second session, at Ostara, we will be exploring our journies with the elemental spirit of Air enjoying our stories and learning from each-other. This is the integration piece of this initiation and is an important part of the group experience.

In addition we will be looking at The Name of the Sabbat itself Ostara (or Eostre)— the Germanic goddess of spring and dawn, from whom the festival takes its name. She is associated with hares, eggs, and the returning light. This is the Spring Equinox when day and night reach a place of equity and balance. So many themes to explore.

Other deities of this time are:

Norse & Germanic

  • Freya — goddess of love, fertility, and beauty; closely associated with spring's abundance and new life
  • Frigg — goddess of the home, marriage, and motherhood; invoked for growth and new beginnings

Greek & Roman

  • Persephone — perhaps the most iconic spring goddess; her return from the Underworld each year was said to bring spring back to the Earth
  • Demeter — Persephone's mother, goddess of the harvest and grain; her joy at her daughter's return is what causes the land to bloom
  • Flora — the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, honoured in the festival Floralia
  • Aurora — Roman goddess of the dawn, sharing the same linguistic root as Eostre/Ostara

Celtic

  • Brigid — goddess of fire, healing, and fertility; though more associated with Imbolc (February), her energy carries through into spring
  • The Green Man — not a goddess, but a powerful masculine deity of nature's rebirth and vegetation

Gods (Masculine Energy)

  • The Oak King — in Wiccan and neopagan tradition, he represents the waxing year and triumphs at the spring equinox
  • Cernunnos — the Celtic horned god of nature and wild things, whose energy stirs as the natural world awakens

The overarching theme across all these figures is the return of life, light, and fertility after the darkness of winter.

We really hope you will journey with us through all the elements and Sabbats however life is life and not everyone will be able to make every ritual. But for the best chance of managing this here are the dates for the whole year:
