About

Spring is the best time to cleanse with bitter, astringent and pungent plants such as dandelion, wild garlic, nettle, hedge mustard and cleavers. These are also all nutrient rich and help us recharge after winter. We'll go for a walk around Batcombe woods and fields foraging as we go. Please bring gardening gloves and a foraging basket or bag. We'll then head to my home to make some delicious recipes:

Spring tonic herbal vinegar to take home

Wild garlic salt to take home

Wild pesto, to go with a spring greens soup

Wild garlic butter

We'll also discuss how best to preserve foraged finds with sea salt, honey, apple cider vinegar or brandy. You get to take home a tasty herbal vinegar, wild garlic salt and a full handout of nutritional info and recipes to try at home.

"Thank you for such a wonderful day Jo, you really are so knowledgeable and an amazing person to learn from. Your home is beautiful and the food was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to get stuck in to some of the recipes!" (Jessie B)

"The Spring Foraging Workshop was a very enjoyable experience. Whilst harvesting seasonal edible and healing plants in the sunny woods and fields, we were given much information by Joanna - who is extremely knowledgeable about wild plants - and I learnt many new things. Joanna is very generous, and when we got back to the house we were given home made Dandelion cookies and herbal teas using the plants we had bet it foraging, as well as making pesto, tonic vinegar, and tasting delicious wild garlic butter. We were also given an epic handout with lots of information and recipes Very good value, and made new friends."

My aim is for my workshops to be friendly and inclusive places where all are welcome. If you have mobility or other issues which may impact being able to walk across different terrains for an hour please do get in touch to discuss options. Dogs Welcome on leads on the walk part and can be left in car at my home for the wildcrafting part.

" I jumped at the chance to do a Foraging day. This was equally special. We foraged in the woods and learnt about different plants, picked them and then came back to her home with our treasures to contribute to the lunch and take home. We tasted nettle cordial and tea, tonics, salts with wild garlic and other salts. We made our own forage vinegar and wild garlic slat. The lunch was amazing, with nettle and wild garlic soup, wonderful bread and cheese and wild garlic soup. All followed by a wonderful and delicate nettle cake. There was so much warmth, generosity and insights into plants." (Nikki P)
