Ready to master the fundamentals of sushi making? Join Grow Cook Learn at Reimagine Co. for a hands-on session where you’ll learn the essential techniques behind creating beautiful, delicious sushi rolls! We will focus on building confidence in the kitchen by mastering knife skills and rolling techniques that you can apply to any variety of sushi you make at home.
Date: Wednesday, March 11, 2026
Time: Doors open at 5:45 PM, workshop begins at 6:00 PM
Location: Reimagine Co., London, Ontario – https://reimagineco.ca
What You’ll Experience:
- Meet Your Community & Connect: Kick off the workshop with a fun icebreaker to get to know your fellow attendees and connect with community members.
- Food Safety & Kitchen Skills: We will discuss essential food safety practices for handling fresh produce and prepared grains, including how to safely approach sushi making at home regardless of your choice of fillings.
- Skills Demonstration: We will go over a demonstration of how to cook and season the perfect sushi rice (though we will be using pre-prepared rice for our rolls to ensure plenty of time for rolling!). We will also demonstrate proper knife skills for creating a perfect julienne of fresh vegetables.
- Hands-on Sushi Rolling: With the help of our circulating volunteers, you will use bamboo rolling mats to master the art of the roll. You will learn to create both Hosomaki (rice on the inside) and Uramaki (rice on the outside).
- Creative Freedom: There are no set recipes today! You are encouraged to get creative and use the provided ingredients—such as green onion, carrots, bell pepper, cucumber, pickled turnip, and bean curd—to build sushi rolls that suit your own taste.
- Wrap-Up & Community Care: We will conclude by slicing our rolls and enjoying our handmade sushi together as a group before cleaning up our stations.
A Welcoming Space for Everyone:
At Grow Cook Learn, we believe that healthy eating looks different for everyone. This is a judgment-free space where all bodies, backgrounds, and skill levels are celebrated. We focus on food neutrality and the joy of building skills as a community.
Families & Children:
Kids are absolutely welcome! Please keep in mind that the workshop begins with a short interactive presentation that involves a sitting period. During the food preparation portion, knives will be used. We expect all participants to follow safe food handling practices as we will be sharing the preparation space and tools. We are happy to make accommodations to ensure the best experience for you and your family—please let us know if you require any specific arrangements when you register.
What to Bring:
- Your enthusiasm and curiosity!
- A container to safely transport any extra sushi rolls home.
- Closed-toe shoes appropriate for indoors (please change out of winter boots to help keep our space clean and safe).
- A hair tie or clip to secure long hair during food preparation.
- All ingredients, tools, and materials are provided.
